 Bowen Coat of Arms
Bracy Bowen
Bracy Bowen can be proven as a son of David Bowen Sr by Mecklenburg Deed Book 14, p 462-463, 10 Aug 1811 in which Bracy and several brothers and sisters as "legatees of David Bowen" sold 25 acres near Buffalo Creek.
He first appeared on the Mecklenburg tax lists as a male over 21 in 1783 which would place his date of birth as 1762 or earlier. This agrees with his Revolutionary pension application in which he states he was born in Mecklenburg Co in 1762. He last appeared on the Mecklenburg tax records in 1807, but according to his pension application, he remained in Mecklenburg until 1822 when he moved to Rutherford Co, NC. His brother Lewis Bowen was already a resident of Rutherford Co as early as 1820.
The following copies of Bracy Bowen's penison application and a 1972 article concerning Bracy Bowen were provided by Gordon Parks. Note that the application is in fact only 4 pages long, but each page was copied in two parts.
