Bowen Coat of Arms

Mecklenburg Co taxes 1806-1828

1.  Names given in red lived in Joseph B. Clausel's district.

2.  Names given in blue lived in Lewis Parham's district, which was changed to Newman Dortch in 1820 and to Charles W. Baird in 1827.

3.  From 1821-1828 (yellow) there was NO HEAD COUNT FOR WHITES, only the number of blacks over 16 that were owned by the household.  Some Bowens had slaves before this time, but I didn't extract that information.

4.  For years 1806-1820 the white head count was for 16 years and older.

5.  In 1826  James Bowen's estate was charged.

6.  In 1820 it was Littleberry Bowen's estate that was charged.

7.  Can't explain why some years are blank for some Bowens.

8.  1808 there wasn't a tax taken.

9.  Can't explain why there is a Jesse Bowen for 1806 unless this was really Littleberry B. Kirks .

10.  Can't explain why there wasn't a Littleberry B. Kirks or Littleberry Kirks Bowen listed for the years 1806-1809.

11.  The William Bowen that shows up in 2 places starting in 1816 could be the same person owning property in both districts.  Maybe.

12.  Notes not part of the original records appear in square brackets. [.....]
