At a Court continued and held for Mecklenburg County the 17th day of August 1824. The last will and Testament of William Bowen decd. was produced in Court and proved by the oaths of William T Thomason and Thomas Kirks subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.

This William Bowen was William Bowen III, son of William Bowen Jr and Lucrecy and brother of Hicks Bowen. He was referred to as "William son of William" in the land tax records. His name also appeared as an heir-at-law (brother) to the estate of Hicks Bowen.

William Bowen III's wife Mavel Bowen left her will five years later.

Mecklenburg Will Book 12 p 18

Mavel Bowen of Mecklenburg Co. Son Salathiel Bowen. Daughter M E Bowen. Daughter Polly C Bowen. Son Salathiel Bowen executor. Dated 4 Apr 1829.
Witnesses Thomas Kirks, Micl. Thomason, Meriot Kirks.
Proved 17 Aug 1829
The marriage record for one of these daughters is of special interest:

Martha Hicks Bowen m Archelus Morgon May 24, 1814 Mecklenburg Co.

Again we see the name Hicks. Again it relates to the descendants of William Bowen Jr and Lucrecy. Was Lucrecy a Hicks? If so, it has not been proven.
